Online Classes

Twig is an eLearning website, offering scrappers a chance to learn and enhance their skills and techniques by taking classes online.

"It's a natural progression to take learning to the Internet." said Angie Long, Twig's Owner and President, "Scrappers want the ability to learn new concepts in the comfort of their home without packing up supplies and lugging them to a scrapbooking class."

Twig has a class schedule available on their site, as well as an animation on how to take classes from the site.

Laid Off? Time to Scrap!

There is a really neat story at the West Island Chronicle about Jane Wilkins, a single mother of two who was laid off from her job and started a home scrapbooking business focusing on scrapbooking classes for children:

"It brings me closer to the kids, because when I do classes or parties in here, my kids help out, and with scrapbooking, they have learned to tell a story without words, and I want my kids to be able to remember everything - I want them to have tangible things they can look at and remember when they were kids."

National Scrapbooking Day Website

National Scrapbooking Day now has its own website to organize and share information with the scrapbooking comunity. From the press release:

Many scrapbookers mark National Scrapbooking Day by gathering with fellow scrapbookers and working on pages and albums. Retailers and Service Providers host special events like crops, contests and product sales. This year National Scrapbooking Day is Saturday, May 6, 2006.

“National Scrapbooking Day also is a time for all scrapbookers to reflect and recognize that what we do matters,” notes NSA president and co-founder, Veronica Hugger. “Scrapbookers are historians. We dedicate our precious free time and energy to document the lives of loved ones. National Scrapbooking Day reminds us that scrapbooking is important.”

Scrapbook Podcasting

It was only a matter of time... 2005 was the year of the podcasts, and now it looks like scrapbookers are starting to get in on the act - Angie Pedersen is now producing her own podcast, Wholly Scrap!

For those that don't know, podcasts are simply audio files that you can subscribe to online - you don't need an iPod to listen to them. For subscription and organization of your podcasts, I like Odeo's simple and intuitive interface quite a bit!

Sharing Tutorials on Google Groups

Over on the Scrapbooking Google Group, users are sharing some of their favorite tutorials for scrapbooking. If you feel like contributing some of yours, all it takes is an email address to post away!
