Teens Getting Into Scrapping?

The Los Angeles Times depicts the growing trend of teenagers getting into scrapbooking as a way to organize their lives. The article describes that teenagers are scrapping together at youth-events such as proms or sleepovers:

In an age when many young women document every second of their social lives with digital cameras, some members of Generation Y are taking their growing collections back to the decidedly analog world of the photo album.

KSU Officially Supports Scrapbooking

Kansas State University is officially sponsoring a scrapbooking club for students, called Scrapbookers Unite:

After becoming a large group on Facebook.com, Brie Handgraaf, junior in mass communications, started Scrapbookers Unite as an official club at K-State.

Handgraaf said she is very passionate about her club, and she created it so she could scrapbook with other college students.

Predictions for 2006

Carolyn at Crop Chic has posted her 2006 scrapbooking predictions. I thought this one was interesting:

Pre-made scrapbooks - These are popping up all over, from Target to Hallmark.  These albums are pre-designed.  All you have to do is add your pictures.  If you're a scrapbook designer, you may want to jump on this trend and possibly make extra cash.  Look no further than eBay where tons of them are listed and sold weekly.

Scrapbooking Retreats

The online edition of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that scrapbooking retreats are starting to pop up nationwide.

The specialized retreats feature spaces for guests to work on photo albums and single beds in usually well-appointed rooms. They're the latest twist in a 15-year-old industry that generated $3.6 billion in 2004, according to the Craft and Hobby Association, a national trade organization.

Handwriting is Back

Nancy over at Inside Scrapbooking reports on the return to handwriting and why she hates it:

Back when I first started scrapbooking, about 7 years ago, almost all of my pages had handwritten journaling on them. I had a collection of colored pens and guide templates to make straight lines. But despite my best efforts I never liked the results very much. I just hate my handwriting and have since I was very young. And as a consequence, my early pages never had much journaling on them because I hated to “ruin” my pretty pages with my ugly handwriting.

4. Mini books are the newest gift to give this holiday season. They come in an assortment of sizes and are a more personal way to give.
5. Embellish it with ribbon!  Lots of new ribbon is now available in a assortment of widths, colors and designs.
